Lake neusiedler
Lake Neusiedl, called Neusiedler See in German and Fertő in Hungarian, is a shallow lake shared by Austria and Hungary. It lies within a landscape of reed beds, wetlands, and surrounding steppe-like habitats.
How it works
The lake’s water level and area can fluctuate because it is shallow and sensitive to precipitation, evaporation, and water management. The surrounding region supports important bird habitat and is recognized for its natural and cultural value.

Example or application
The lake is associated with the Neusiedler See–Seewinkel area in Austria and Fertő-Hanság in Hungary. Nearby settlements and vineyards make the region both an ecological and cultural landscape.
Scope and limits
Lake conditions and visitor access can change seasonally. Check local park and travel information for current trails, services, and restrictions.
